Vietnam foreign policy
The Vietnam war affected the United Sates in many different ways, one very prominent action taken however, was a change in the US foreign policy. It was a near immediate change, from a military drafting the war effort became a volunteer army. The Congress, having passed a War Powers Resolution in 1973, limited the presidents ability to control the troops being sent over for combat in Vietnam without the consent of Congress. Beyond the policy changes there was also a change in attitude of the American peoples, a change in the attitude of the generation. It increased awareness and gave caution to the US's involvement in foreign affairs and after Vietnam, the Americans were more wary of taking risks, no longer diving head first into other nations problems. Also the defeat of the US army made many lose confidence in the United States army and superiority. Over all the defeat in Vietnam was a world wide showing of the humiliation of a defeated US Nation.
